Where possible, you should avoid using washing machine to wash your nylon gear.
The reason is that nylon fabric normally has specific coating which gives it special look, sound, and feeling. And the coating is the most delicate part of the whole thing.
If you frequently wash your nylon gear in a washing machine, you may start to notice pilling on your gear. After nylon starts to pill, a series of small holes will begin to get bigger and more noticeable. It's like a chain reaction. But you can significantly delay this degradation and extend the life of your favourite nylon gear by hand and delicate washing.
Also, it is better to drip dry your nylon gear and avoid using a clothes dryer. Simply put wet nylon item on a non-staining hanger, smooth all seams with your fingers while it is still wet, and let it dry.
Nylon is usually long lasting, but the more you wash and dry it, the more likely it is to pill and become worn out.
Please also remember that nylon fabric can be easily damaged by overheating: fire spark, extremely hot air from hair dryer, excessively hot iron, etc. can permanently damage your nylon gear.
Here is the summary of what you should NOT do to your nylon gear:
Do not dry in a clothes dryer.
Do not use chlorine bleach.
Do not use strong detergents or excessive amount of detergents.
Do not overheat.
Do not iron at more than minimum level temperatures.
Always put a wet cloth between iron and your nylon gear when ironing.
Do not expose to an open fire or flame.
